Stress-Free Spring Cleaning!

Posted on: Friday, March 20, 2015

Today is the first day of spring, which means it's time to do some spring cleaning and remove the dust and debris from our long winter hibernation. Cleaning and organizing can be both overwhelming and daunting. However, you can put your mind at ease with some planning and useful tips!

 For the home:

  • Divide and conquer! Instead of trying to tackle everything in a day or two, spread tasks out over a week or so. You can divide each day by project or by room. Ex: day 1:ceilings, day 2:walls & windows, day 3: baseboards and floors, etc.
  • Focus on what NEEDS to be done. The essentials should be your priority. Little details can be done more sporadically.
  • For the closet- Decide what clothing articles you regularly wear and that make you feel like yourself. Your wardrobe should match the current you, not the past or future you!

For the office:

  • Only keep frequently used items within reach. Do not surround yourself with "stuff". This will keep you from feeling boxed in and overwhelmed with items.
  • Put dividers and trays in your desk drawers so that you don't create a catch-all junk drawer that becomes a bottomless pit.
  • Have a smaller bookshelf, which will keep you from stockpiling books you don't need.
  • Use stackable trays to sort your paperwork and other items into categories. Color systems can be used as well Ex: red folders are for high priority files, etc.
  • Clean out your inbox and organize your email folders. Digital clutter is still clutter!

*Side note: Have an inspirational, fun, festive, or upbeat desktop background for your computer. It will be a constant pick-me-up! The more you enjoy your workspace, the more likely you will be to keep it organized!

Stay On Track This Year!

Posted on: Thursday, January 1, 2015

We all know how hard it can be to stick to our New Year's Resolutions. But, the truth is that it can be done with a little planning. Did you know that it only takes 21 days to form or break a habit? When you really think about it, that's no so bad!

Here are some guidelines, tips, and strategies to help keep you on track with your resolution.

  • Set small goals - Example: Instead of setting out to lose 20 pounds, why not start with 5 or 10? Once you reach that target, then set your next!
  • Reward yourself - Make sure you celebrate your small wins. You could buy yourself a new shirt or fun gadget. Make yourself a wishlist you can choose from!
  • Create motivational reminders - Hang signs around your home, or add them to your phone/desktop calendar. These can be as simple as "You can do it!" You could also use your favorite quotes - anything that inspires you!
  • Keep in mind that setbacks are not failures - If you slip, just brush it off and keep moving forward.

The most important thing to remember is that progress is progress, no matter how small or large!

Last Minute Christmas Ideas

Posted on: Friday, December 19, 2014

Are you trying to throw Christmas together at the last second? You can still make Christmas merry in a pinch. Here are few pointers to help you out!

  • Make a cotton ball tree by placing cotton balls all over to look like snow. Hint: the smaller the tree, the better! You could also use pine cones and other items collected from around your own home. Making ornaments out of paper and string could be a fun activity as well.  Ex: make snowflakes with the kids, using paper plates or by cutting them out of paper.
  • Make edible treats to give as gifts. You only have to shop once and then complete the rest at home. This means no fighting crowds! You can make bark, brittle, cookies, or other baked goods and place them in decorative baggies, tie with ribbons, and add name tags!
  • Keep your food menu simple or have a pitch-in! You can also pre-order items for day-ahead pickup at many grocery stores or opt for dips, spreads, and finger foods versus a meal!
